What are your first memories of arriving at BMC your freshman year?

I can remember the day almost like it was yesterday. My mom, my sister and I had driven from Cleveland, Mississippi with my trunks and suitcases in our car. We drove up in front of Stevens Dorm and proceeded to the third floor - last room on the right - right above the dining hall dinner bell! I arrived before my roommate (does anyone have contact info for June PIERCE ?). I was so excited about being there that I really just wanted my mom and sister to get back on the road and let me soak in my new found freedom! (My sister told me years later that she cried all the way back to Cleveland because she thought she was never going to see me again! Poor thing!)

After I unpacked a few things, I went down to the parlor to watch the other freshman arrive. I'm sure many did but the one freshman that made an impression on me was Robin SMITH Moody! Mrs. Hilda Hill brought her in and introduced her as a Mississippi's Junior Miss!

I think maybe later on that day we had a picnic out in the little dell. We sang alot of songs and played a few games. I believe I sat next to Punky! (does anybody have a contact for her?) One song I remember that we sang was "sippin' cider through a straw". (Can someone PLEASE send me the words to that?)

I felt like I had come into my own. I felt all grown up. I LOVED BMC already!
